PART TIME - DEVELOPMENTAL SPECIALIST - The Arc of Opportunity - Fitchburg, MA

Salary: 13.35 (USD) Hourly

Assists the Case Managers and Program Director in implementing programs, developmental skills training, and social/recreational activities in a variety of settings.

Position Schedule:
Monday to Friday (10am - 2pm)

Essential Functions:

  • Functional and situational reasoning to follow policy, problem solve, exercise sound judgment, prioritize multiple tasks, and crisis manage.
  • Cross functional communication skills, written and oral, which convey clear and concise information in a professional and respectful manner to individuals supported, family members/guardians, peers, government agencies, community partners and all employees throughout the organization.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Physical demands include: Frequent standing, pushing, pulling, walking, stooping, lifting and twisting.
  • Ability to perform physical restraint if necessary.
  • Ability to transfer, change, shower assist with toileting and all personal care needs of the individuals supported.
  • Frequent driving of facility motor vehicles and vans.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning, and implementation of developmental skills training, social/recreational activities utilizing input from the individuals at the program as they pertain to the service principles of rights and dignity, individual control, community membership, inclusion, decision making, relationships, personal growth and accomplishments, and personal well-being.
  • Implement of service plan goals and objectives.
  • Attends mandatory trainings and meetings as assigned and required. Maintains all required certifications.
  • Provide transportation for individual on community activities.
  • Knowledgeable about community resources to better assist individuals served in achieving their goals while seeking to empower and enhance their quality of life.
  • Assist individuals in the preparation of meals as appropriate their preferences, abilities, and interest and in accordance with dining guidelines.
  • Assist individuals with skill building and attainment of ISP/service plan goals
  • Assist individual in resolving health and hygiene issues.
  • Perform safe lifts and transfers of individuals who use wheelchairs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Position requires a Bachelors Degree in a human services-related field plus at least one year of experience in a training program for persons with developmental disabilities,
    OR
  • In lieu of a Bachelors Degree in a human services-related field, an incumbent may substitute at least two years of work in a training program for persons with developmental disabilities.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Acceptable driving record results.
  • Acceptable background check results including CORI, SORI, OIG, and fingerprinting.
  • Must maintain and provide proof of minimum levels of auto insurance coverage as specified by The Arc of Opportunity.
