Training

The technology for providing healthcare services through real-time two-way communication between the healthcare provider and patient (virtual visit) is spreading across the healthcare spectrum. The implementation of a simple telehealth solution can provide benefits to both the individual requiring care, as well as organizations that adopt them.

Purpose/Background of Training

Typically an individual that requires medical attention is often sent to the ER for an evaluation by a physician. Transportation is arranged and staffing is added to accompany the person. The individual may endure hours of waiting in a foreign environment, a disruption of his/her routine and may be subject to unnecessary diagnostic testing. Telehealth can help avoid much of this trauma. Data shows that utilizing telehealth in populations with I/DD reduces ER use while providing immediate access to a physician. The process reduces costs and anecdotally improves staff and patient satisfaction.

Adding a telehealth solution is a simple, cost-effective way to provide quality care to individuals with I/DD.
