Transitions Centers Inc. is a 501(c)(6) not-for-profit corporation dedicated to providing quality services for individuals with challenges. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the organization’s operations, implementing Board policies, managing financial objectives, and ensuring the organization’s mission is consistently achieved. The Executive Director is the principal spokesperson for Transitions Centers and represents the organization to stakeholders, government agencies, community partners, and the public.
The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors for governance. The role also reports operationally to the Vice President of Adult Services at Latham Centers. This structure aligns with the corporate agreement between Latham Centers (parent company) and Transitions Centers (subsidiary), ensuring consistent operational oversight, resource allocation, and alignment with broader organizational goals. Furthermore, the Executive Director works closely with the assigned Latham Centers Financial Officer. The Executive Director is responsible for working with the Latham Financial Officer on preparing annual budgets, monthly to quarterly financial reporting, accounting, and audit support and preparing all financial reports for the Transitions Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilities
Collaboration with Latham Centers
- Maintain regular communication with the Senior Level Latham Liaison at Latham Centers to ensure operational alignment and resource sharing.
- Provide critical incident notifications and updates on public relations issues to the Senior Level Latham Liaison at Latham Centers
- Work closely with Senior Level Latham Liaison to address challenges in obtaining resources, funding, or other support for Transitions Centers.
- Collaborate with Latham Centers on strategic initiatives, program development, and identifying growth opportunities.
- Ensure a strong working relationship between Transitions Centers and Latham Centers leadership to support seamless service delivery and operational efficiency.
Governance & Strategic Leadership
- Work with the Latham Liaison to report directly to the Board of Directors and execute policies approved by the Board.
- Serve as a non-voting member of the Board of Directors and facilitate Board meetings. Assumes primary responsibility for management and supervision of all meetings of the Board of Directors.
- Develop and implement a Strategic Plan in conjunction with program leadership and the Latham Liaison with long-range strategies that align with the organization’s mission and ensure sustainable progress.
- Provide leadership in program development, organizational growth, and financial planning with the Latham Liaison and Board of Directors. Ensure all programmatic planning fits within agency budget and organizational goals.
- Maintain official records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Stay informed about trends, best practices, and developments in the field.
- Uphold the organization's reputation and ensure high standards of delivery service.
- Report to the Board of Directors and Latham Centers Liaison progress toward stakeholder after action plans (i.e. Strategic Plan/DDS Office of Quality Assurance/CARF).
Public Relations & Community Engagement
- Keep the Latham Liaison and the Board informed on organizational status and key influencing factors.
- Develop Public Relations and Communication plan for Transitions Centers.
- Promote the organization’s activities, programs, and goals.
- Establish strong working relationships with community agencies, government officials, media, and other stakeholders.
- Represent Transitions Centers at public events, advocacy meetings, and industry forums.
- Represent Transitions Centers at trade association meetings (ADDP)
- Oversee the accuracy and effectiveness of organizational communications, including brochures, newsletters, and digital platforms.
Human Resources & Staff Management
- Recruit, hire, and ensure effective management for all employees and volunteers.
- Develop and maintain job descriptions, ensure performance evaluations, and ensure the agency upholds sound HR practices
- Foster a workplace culture that attracts, retains, and motivates a diverse and skilled workforce.
- Provide professional development opportunities and succession planning within the leadership/management team.
- Ensure that Transitions Centers’s provides quality staff benefits within the current agency budget.
- Ensures that transparent communication occurs throughout the organization.
- Ensures TCI’s HR practices remain current with state and federal rules and regulations.
Financial & Fundraising Oversight
- Develop and maintain sound financial practices to ensure fiscal responsibility.
- Prepare and present the budget to the Board and see that the organization operates within budget guidelines. Regularly monitors agency income and expenses.
- Work directly with the Latham Financial Officer on annual budgets, monthly to quarterly fiscal reporting, ensuring appropriate insurance coverages, Fiscal reports for the Board of Directors and contracts related issues: reporting, billing or supplying contracts to stakeholders.
- Ensure that the agencies’ billing and service recording meet all stakeholder requirements.
- Secure adequate funding to sustain and grow the organization. Or make adjustments in program operations and census to ensure programs can operate effectively.
- Develop and execute a strategic fundraising plan including grants and other fundraising efforts.
- Manage official correspondence and execute legal agreements on behalf of the organization.
Other Responsibilities
- Monitor technology needs and work closely with IT Consultants to ensure adequate IT security monitoring and technology assistance.
- Ensure the TCI website is updated and reflects current agency information. Coordinate with website developer.
- Monitor external contracts with all TCI vendors.

- Ability to navigate and comply with nonprofit regulations and governance.
- Experience in strategic planning, fundraising, and program development.
- Demonstrated ability to foster a positive and inclusive organizational culture.
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, nonprofit management, social services, or a related field -Master's preferred.
