GENERAL SUMMARY

Manages Transportation Department Staff and acts as a liaison between department personnel and the Director of Transportation. Performs payroll duties and other reporting functions by the direction of the Director of Transportation. Together with the Director of Transportation and the Transportation Assistant, performs the upkeep of vehicle maintenance and other departmental records in order to ensure safe and efficient fleet operations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS*

  • Schedules and coordinates driver and route schedules, ensuring that all daily transportation routes are staffed.
  • Works closely with the Transportation Assistant to oversee maintenance schedules for all Agency vehicles including those assigned to specific programs.
  • Oversees and maintains records, as required by the Massachusetts Human Service Transportation office, the Local Regional Transit Authority, and the Agency.
  • Assists with contract billing and reporting; including updates to route documentation, COVID-19 protocol documentation, and monthly Service Delivery Reports.
  • Ensures drivers are obeying all safety practices, State and Local regulations, and are in compliance with their required trainings.
  • Assists the Director of Transportation in the orientation and training of all new drivers and Agency staff who require driving related training.
  • Reports all accidents in a timely fashion and in accordance with Agency and regulatory standards.
  • Performs all duties of the Van Driver, as documented.
  • Maintains regular, open lines of communication and a positive rapport with families, guardians, Agency staff, neighbors, and community members.
  • Serves as mandated reporter for suspected cases of abuse and/or neglect to the Disabled Persons Protection Commission (DPPC).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • Supervises the Transportation Department Van Drivers and Transportation Assistant.

  • Works as a relief driver, as needed.
  • Performs additional duties, as assigned.

PREPARATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • High school diploma.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Prior staff management, fleet operation, and route scheduling experience preferred.
  • At least three years’ prior experience providing transportation services for individuals with disabilities preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license in the state of Massachusetts and proof of an excellent driving record for the past 5 years.
  • Proficient with Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with ADP payroll and other Transportation Management Software programs preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow directions and read maps.
  • Successful completion of all Regional Transit Authority and Agency mandated trainings required upon hire.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to assist individuals in and out of the vehicle.
  • Ability to physically intervene in instances of extreme behavior that might jeopardize safety of individuals supported and staff.
  • Ability to perform wheelchair securement protocols.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to pull up or transfer individuals weighing up to 250 pounds.
