Relief Staff

GENERAL SUMMARY

  • Provides safe and timely transportation to individuals with disabilities between their residences and day sites.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS*

  • Ensures and safeguards Agency program participants’ human dignity, rights, and liberties.
  • Adheres to all applicable Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA) and Agency regulations, policies and procedures, as well as, state and local laws in the operation of vehicles.
  • Maintains consistent and clear communication with Transportation Coordinator and other designated staff.
  • Provides safe and timely pick-up and drop-off of specified program participants, following routes, schedules, and procedures authorized by the Transportation Coordinator.
  • Assists those program participants requiring help entering or leaving the vehicle; escorts participants requiring additional assistance to or from the vehicle.
  • Checks and responds to messages in a timely manner before beginning morning and afternoon routes.
  • Completes and submits all required paperwork including attendance sheets and vehicle checklists.
  • Attends training sessions, staff meetings and related programs, as scheduled.
  • Maintains internal and external cleanliness of vehicle.
  • Serves as mandated reported for suspected cases of abuse and/or neglect to Disabled Persons Protection Commission (DPPC).

PREPARATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior experience providing transportation services for individuals with disabilities preferred.
  • Ability to follow directions and read maps.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in both verbal and written form with coworkers and supported individuals and read fluently.
  • Valid driver’s license in the state of Massachusetts required.
  • Documented physical indicating fitness for job.
  • Successful completion of all state and Agency mandated trainings required upon hire.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • No supervisory responsibility.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to assist adults with disabilities in and out of the vehicle.
  • Ability to physically intervene in instances of extreme behavior that might jeopardize safety of individuals supported and staff.
  • Ability to perform wheelchair securement protocols.
